Abstract Glyph Compositions
In this project, I used glyphs to create abstract compositions. I made two compositions, one using a sans-serif font (Neue Haas Grotesque) and another with a serif font (Stemple Garamond Roman). The number and variety of glyphs were restricted, as well as the color. For my sans-serif composition, I focussed on scale to create variety in my otherwise very aligned and uniform piece. The focal point is tilted and out of alignment with the other glyphs. It's also isolated and placed on a rule of thirds intersection to draw the eye and emphasize it as the focal point. For my serif composition, I focussed on placing the glyphs together in interesting ways to create unique shapes and unity throughout the piece. I used white letters on top of black letters to create a visual path towards the focal point, which is also placed using the rule of thirds and isolated from the rest of the shapes.
